Brothers of Saint John in parishes

Local bishops often call upon the brothers to become parish priests (or rectors of a shrine). This is the case for more than half of our priories.

Through our engagement in the parish we desire to serve the parishioners as brothers and to offer our charism as a means of growing in the Christian life.

Our hope is that the parishes and shrines entrusted to our care become special places of renewal and nourishment through a life of prayer shared with the brothers; places of formation in the understanding of the faith; and places of fraternal communion and missionary activity.

The whole community is committed to this apostolate. One brother from the priory is usually the parish priest (although sometimes more than one share the task), but nevertheless we all take on responsibilities within the life of the parish, whether through catechesis, sacramental preparation, or visiting the sick and elderly, etc.
