Br Francis of the Child Jesus has published a book in English on the theology found in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The book is called Theological Landscape of Middle Earth: On Theology in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Fantasy, and is published by Newman House Press.

A book on the theology found in the work of Tolkien, author of the famous trilogy, Lord of the Rings

Fantasy novels can be a good distraction. But they are not limited to that: fantasy novels can be a good way of raising the questions that spring from the depths of man’s heart, including religious and theological questions. They can also express an attempt at answering those questions in a way that could otherwise not be done, most especially through the use of archetypes and mythological symbolism. This book explores these aspects within the creative world of J.R.R. Tolkien, especially his Lord of the Rings.
