The three vows we make are those of poverty, chastity and obedience. Life according to these three vows corresponds to “the form of life which the Son of God took on entering the world” (Vita consecrata, 16). This is why in making this promise to live according to the vows, we rely on the mercy of God and the help of our brothers (Cf. Ritual of profession). Our desire is to unite as closely as possible to Jesus, seeking to “gradually appropriate the feelings of Christ towards his Father.” (Vita consecrata, 65).
